Ok i have a 2.5 mercruiser on a 89 thundercraft. I can turn the moter over just fine with muffs of course, but i dont belive my engine is getting water. my temp rised a little to about 180 and i shut it off after 2 minutes seemed fine. but after i shut it off i went to turn the water off and noticed little bit of rust water under the boat. i popped the hose off the engine and seen no signs of water ust rust the boat hasnt been started in over a year so do you think its my water pump that went bad?

The impeller is the FIRST thing you check on any overheat problem on marine engines.

If the RUBBER impeller hasn't turned in a year, I would replace it without a question. That will also give you the chance to have a look around the unis and bellows at the same time....

JMHO,
