Always have time for good thoughts for someone, I sure know if my life I have needed them more than once.

Good luck Bubba.

Bubba,
The power of positive thought is an amazing thing. Keep them up on the inside, and count mine among those from the outside.

nDo everything the doc says, I know after I was shot in the hip, I would have lost my leg, if not my life, by not following my dr. instrutions to the letter!

Do you get any real amount of snow in the winter?
(not being smart-***....I am just not sure what the MO climate is like)
I guarantee that your Doc would be thrilled if you were able to get in some X-country skiing....and it's a lot more interesting than walking. :)

By the statement you made about the possibility of losing one or both legs...I'm assuming Diabetes Type II? Diet and exercise are the 2 best things to control it. It sucks having to change your lifestyle...and hard (we're creatures of habit). In 6 months to a year of a healthy eating and a regular exercise program I have seen many people get off their medications!

I'm rooting for you.

Hey Bubba: exercise is definitely gonna' help, but I believe (by experience and research) that diet has an almost equal or greater impact. My own experience is nearing 10 years, and it bears out for me too.

Not that everything has to be "organic" as is the fad right now, but you do want to look at what is more natural (perhaps organic). Learn what does your body react well to, and not react well to. Look at getting less processed foods out of your system, and more natural meats, vegetables and grains into it. Etc., etc.

Can always PM some more suggestions to you if you're interested.

I can attest to that. It takes a bit of getting used to, but when properly motivated (sounds like you have that) it becomes not only easier, but preferable to you entire body (and mind). My wife says she now shops around the perimeter of the grocery store, where the less-processed foods are. It's not cheaper, but man does it feel good.

You will beat it, and we're with you!

As always, you guys gave some great suggestions and possibilities. Checking them all out.

Ask about bicycle riding too ;)

What's that old joke...... the doctor told my grandfather to walk a mile a day and since he left a few weeks ago.....I imagine he is pretty far away by now..... we sure do miss him!

Bike riding is very good way to exercise. I would think your doc would be ok with that, still run it by him. Pun intended? Maybe.....:) You can also get a trainer that allows you to ride your bike indoors. As long as the roads are plowed you can walk. Heck, they walk outdoors year round up here....

Bubba yer on the ole prayer list now. the doc is wrong about the value of treadmills/elliptical s for exercise.

Do a half hour on the treadmill/elliptical, closely followed by a half hour/forty five minutes, strength training, three times a week and you?re good to go. By the way, what shape does the doc look like he is in? Outta round? Pudgy?trim?
