I left my 7.5 mercury out in the rain without the hood on. The engine is a 1972. When I took my boat out the motor took a long time to start. When I got the engine running it would cough and sputter at low rpms. At high rpm the coughing ceased.
The motor has also lost about 75% of its power.
It sound sounds great at high rpms, but doesnt have any power. With the throtle half off the motor coughs, at low rpms it will cough and eventually die.
Any suggestions. thanks

Hi I,M no expert but some of these problems are a lot like I had.I had to replace the stator. Check the stator for proper output, also check your gas for water

Have you tried it after it dried off?
