Cost of a metal box to hold a large home generator.

Needs to be Galvanized. Hinged top and a hinged end door.
60 " long X 40" high X 36" deep. ( front to rear ).
A experienced guess would do.

If it's a whole house genny, it comes in the sound attenuated enclosure. The radiator fan will keep air moving past the radiator and muffler

If you build one, you need to keep air flow thru the most as the CO monitor will shut it down in a box. It will also overheat

The muffler will be outside of the box to remove some of the heat load in the box / shed. This is a 17,500 watt Generac on wheels.
All the metal sheds on the web are the paper thin metal types. Almost all were received with crumpled panels that could not be straightened out Maximum wind speeds of 50 mph.
Money is not a problem on this project.
How small do container boxes used on big container ships get to be ?

ISO containers are 10', 20', 30' and 40'.

If the genny has wheels, it's considered a portable generator and has the CO sensor

Probably a Fab shop in your area, get a quote from them. I would not use gav. metal, instead aluminum. You could make your own fairly easy.

I have no idea where you are but, perhaps a fiberglass or plastic Calf Shelter there all over the farms here..... I just see galvanized requiring more maintenance.

Too bad you’re not near me. There is a young guy near me that welds on the side. Does a lot of aluminum fabrication. A quarter the price of a regular shop.

Just curious, I install generators. If money isn't a problem on this project why are you putting a cheap portable generator in a home made box? Why not get a nice stationary generator that comes in a weather enclosure from the factory?

Ever price out a complete 26 Kw Generac & Propane tanks and Propane run for 2 weeks ?
AND I can only use 13 KW of the new Generac. Screw me all the way by Generac. My old gasoline Generac is rated for full power. Been there and done that.
I simply roll out the old unit. Add gasoline 2 seconds of crank to fire up every time. I have bought gas during rationing with no problems.

I install generators all the time. I know the costs. In post #5 you said money wasn't a problem.
Generac is pretty low on my list, I prefer Kohler. You can get something much smaller than a 26 kW if you don't need that much. Kohler has a 12 kW. I think Generac has an 8 kW. Both come with an enclosure. It might still be cheaper / better than a home built box.

You have NO IDEA of electrical code requirements.
Modern load shedding generators REQUIRE my modern replacement generator to be AT LEAST 2 times more than my ELECTRIC FURNACE needs at full power.
Screw the customer with B S. And charge him double. If the house has electric heat. IT be da law !!
