Ynots, with this setup and conversion I have I have had my share of ESA issues. The jumper your mechanic is referring to is the jumper to connect the overstroke switch. It is not needed and should be bypassed for the new recommended ESA. The CDI/Rapair I recommended is a drop in replacement for the original OMC ESA with the overstroke switch intact. I did both replacements and when I went to the CDI ESA I had to reconnect the overstroke switch. The CDI part will then be readily compatible when you are ready to go back to pertonics and technology.

Ynots...sounds like the ESA your mechanic put in was the new style that doesn't use the overstroke switch anymore because it has a built in timer. If the shift cable and interrupt switch are working the ESA should disengage as soon as the shift is over, if it was still engaged then the switch could be hanging up and that could indicate a sticky or worn out lower shift cable or an adjustment. You may not be seeing that now because the overstroke switch is killing the ESA at the end of the shift, have a look at the interrupt switch and see if it's in the middle of the v shape notch when shifting out of gear into neutral.
