i have replaced impeller but still have no water coming out of motor(1972,75hp Chrysler)any suggestions?

Hello thrude and welcome to iboats. A couple of things. When you installed the impeller was the impeller key installed? The correct way to install is to put impeller on the impeller key push the water pump down hard on impeller while slowly turning the drive shaft clock wise. Also make sure the water tube is in the grommet hole up by the power head. Water flow on chryslers are like an old man with prostate problems. There wont be much water coming out. Try removing the thermostat and try starting it in a garbage can full of water and see if you have any flow up there with the thermostat and the thermostat cover off. Only do this for a few seconds however so you dont burn out your motor. With thermostat out try back flushing by putting water hose in the area of the thermostat with lower unit removed.<br /><br />Is the reason you replaced the impeller because the last one was damaged or because you were overheating?

OK I first replaced the impeller last season because of overheating, also the boat hadn't seen much H2O for about 12yrs.It seemed to work fine last year, but first time in the lake this year the alarm started after about 3-4 mins.Impeller looks to be fine. I am fine with mechanics and all but am a little lost around outboards.You mentioned the thermostat/cover,Where might this be at

This blow up is terrible however if you know what a head gasket is it is the parts right above the head gasket in this diagram. The cover screws may be hard to get off if it has not been removed. Chances are at least one will break. <br />

well i have removed the thermo,checked it in hot h2o it does open up. put a hose to the pipe w/o therm, some h2o did flow thru so i put the lower unit back on to test in drum of h2o but engine has no spark now! ????
