I have a 2001 200XL mercury outboard that has been heating up to 3/4 on the temp gauge. I just had it worked on in a shop that said I needed new thermostats which they replaced for an outrageous sum (over $500). The motor is still overheating (indicating 3/4) and I am wondering just how difficult it is to solve a cooling problem (how many hours of shop time?) and what else could cause the temp gauge to read 3/4 if the motor is actually not overheating?
