I'm sure this has been asked many times, however my search function isn't coming up with what I'm looking for. I have a 95 Mercury 115HP outboard. My tilt/trim unit died so I sent it out to be rebuilt. The original unit had three wires a black (ground) Blue and Green. The Blue/Green wires were connected to cylinoids. When I got the unit back it was converted to a two wire system with relays. How do I make the two systems play nice?

Thanks for your assistance,
John

Not sure what you mean by "Play nice".

You need to remove your solenoids, and wire in relays to operate the 2 wire trim motor. When a 3 wire motor is replaced by a 2 wire motor, there is usually a wiring harness provided, as the relays plug into a molded plug, versus nut and bolt connections on the solenoids. Your rebuilder should have provided same, as they are (or should be) supplied with the PTT motor he bought.

The only difference between relays and solenoids is that relays supply ground to the PTT motor, when not energized. Solenoids are open when not energized. The new PTT wiring harness makes that ground available to the relays.

The wiring from the PTT switch to the PTT unit is the same, or very nearly the same.

How did you install it ? Did you wire the harness positive terminals to the starter solenoid ? I understand ground, and both blue/green connections. Just hung up on this.
