Hello everyone, I recently purchased a used 1972 Mercury 500 series 50hp 4 Cyl motor. Went to go connect my throttle cable and shift cable and realized i am missing the linkage retaining hardware to prevent the cables from moving inside the motor so the lever can operate.

I am not having any luck trying to locate these parts. I am new to boating and new to boat motors this is my first one.

The motor serial number is 3348696

I have found an image that looks to be the parts i am missing. Can anyone help me in the right direction or maybe send me a purchase link for these parts? Thank you in advanced.

Those are part of the cable. The left side is a anchor for the control end and the right side is anchor and adjuster for the motor end

I'm looking for the retaining pieces that hold the 2 black barrels from moving inside the motor. I have all the linkage and cables. I need the parts to lock down the cables from moving in the housing.

Mercs of that vintage (in general), had a metal casing which was one piece with the shift slide track, with 2 plastic tubes inside to hold the cable barrel nuts, a metal lock lever that swung to starboard to hold the barrels, and a plastic flip over lock,

Go on the crowleymarine site and you should get a better look at what you need. I doubt they will be available new, however. A salvage yard is likely where you will find them or on fleabay.

If you have the fitting, you should be able to make something up out of bailing wire.....
