Guys, On my '90 225hp outboard johnson I'm having a problem. Today I took it out on the water but it kept shutting off on me. When i go to squeeze the bulb on the fuel line, it completely flattens. Then I had to wait til it fills with air again( and very slowly) to squeeze it again. I had keep doing this manually for the engine to not shut off. Luckily I was with my buddy. I had to keep the boat in extremely slow speeds on the way back to shore. When I tried to floor, it shuts down after like 10 seconds of high speed. Guys what do you think is going on?

P.S there is no fuel leaks in my fuel line

It sounds like there is a restriction in your line, before the primer bulb. Clear it and see if it still happens. You might also try a different tank too.

Is the tank venting?? Sounds like the tank is not venting?

don't know about venting bro. Just see the fuel line that runs from the tank.

is it an external tank or is it built into the boat?

Either way , the ext tank vent is closed or internal tank vent is clogged.
Or clogged anti syphon on the pickup feed.

Try cracking open the gas tank cap. If it fixes the problem, then you have a plugged up vent.

How old are your fuel lines? If the are old you might a collapsed area, restricting the flow.

Venting: When your fuel pump sucks gas out of your tank, air HAS to get into the tank through a vent to prevent a vacuum situation from forming and not allowing more gas from being pulled from tank. Tanks have open/close/adjustable vents somewhere on them. That would seem to be your problem. Good Luck!

If venting is not the issue, the anti-siphon valve where the fuel line hooks to on the tank can be stuck closed. If that's ok then the pickup tube in the tank is clogged but that would take some really bad stuff to do that. But people have been know to do some really cruel things to stored boats.
