Constant Alarm and Fuel Leak

I have a '93 40hp Johnson with fuel injection. While out fishing, I started my boat for the run back to the dock and a constant alarm sounded from the time I turned the key to the "on" position. Usually hear just one chirp. This time it staid on. First thought was an overheating problem, but the water coming out of the p hole was typical. Next thought was fuel restriction, but I was able to run it up to full throttle with no loss of performance. I assumed it was just a short in the alarm system.

Took off the cover today and had strong smell of gas and a couple of ounces in the bottom of the housing. When I adjusted the tilt, it ran out along the lower unit. The gas is fresh, premixed.

Any suggestions where to start looking? The fuel line seems fine, with no dampness along the length I could touch. If it is a fuel pump, how much of a job is it to change?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Constant Alarm and Fuel Leak

JimZeb,

You obviously have a fuel leak. The alarm was telling you that the engine was not getting enough fuel/oil.

Look at the lines (three) that go to the oil injection pump. Just follow the line from the disconnect on the motor lower cowl pan. You'll see the rest of them.
