Boy you stepped in this one PW!

How about abortion, gay marraige, affirmative action, school busing, higher taxes, national healthcare, midnight basketball, antiwar, anti public display of anything Christian, runaway welfare, pro pornography (national endowment of the arts). Doesn't sound to me like Conservatives have to invent a thing!

I'm sure I could think of plenty more but have to get to the store before it closes.

(edit) Egads! I forgot one of the most important distinguishing issues.. AntiGun.

Re: Conservatives and Liberals

Ok, let's take any of those issues and debate them. Or any others you can think of...Let's take a couple of them....
Abortion---Why would you assume that a woman cannot make a reasonable rational decision about what she does with her own body? Why do you think she is not smart enough, or whatever enough, to make her own decisions. I thought conservatives wanted the government out of our personal lives, and as least intrusive as possible.
Personally, I am against abortion, and would argue against it with anyone that asks me. Where I draw the line is legally imposing my personal view to anyone else, as I don't want others making my personal decisions, and don't feel qualified to make them for others.
If you want to make rules about viability, I can live with that, although I would rather have a doctor at the scene make the life or death decisions affecting my life, rather than some politician in Washington, all things considered.

Gay marriage...There are gays in this world, and some of them want to enter into mainstream society by committing to a legally binding union. How can that possibly affect you? And why, in this land of the free, do you feel compelled to legally discriminate against a specific group of people

Now marriage to some is a religious event but to some it is not. It is certainly not right to force some preacher to perform this ceremony, but that is why we have granted the ability to perform marriages to judges and ship captains and the like.

Marriage may or may not be a religious ceremony, but it is always a legal one. That is why divorces cannot be performed by clergy, but must be handled by judges. There are no compelling arguments, except religious ones, why gay marriages should not happen.

You should be allowed, in this country, to follow the religion of your choice. You are not allowed to compel others to comply with your religion.

That's right Plywoody. We'd better get out the sandblaster and start removing all of the inscriptions on our National Monuments. Especially phrases like these from the Jefferson Memorial:

"I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."

and

"God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever. Commerce between master and slave is despotism. Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than these people are to be free. Establish the law for educating the common people. This it is the business of the state to effect and on a general plan."

Oh, and lets not forget to remove "In God we Trust" from out money, nor lose focus on efforts to remove "one Nation under God" from our pledge of Allegiance.

We must wipe the slate clean!
