I hung a large diameter rope in my props. It caused major damage to the pinion gear to the point it seized. My insurance company has denied my claim stating it was mechanical failure. I was running between 2500 and 3000 rpms when it happened. engine has 550 hours on it and i am not saying the pinion might have had issues, i am saying the coupling is designed to fail at high rpms and catching the rope initiated the failure of the pinion. can someone she some light on the design of the sleeve.

Contact a Marine surveyor and your attorney. Get some estimate/opinions from other Volvo dealers.

I have seen prop shafts shear before that sleeve fails.
