Connecting rod alignment tool

Hey Guys,
I'm rebuilding an Evinrude 225, the alignment tool to align the rod caps costs about 400 bucks!!!! Does anyone here know of a trick to do it without the tool, or has anyone made there own tool? Thanks Bob

The tool is a royal pain and it sometimes does not align the cap right. Do it by hand, take your time and you'll be OK.

Use your fingernail. If you can hang your nail on the rodcap edge then it needs a little adjustment.

Never even knew there was such a tool I use my finger nail as well
