Re: confession is good for the soul.
Just thought of another confession..

few years back I was on the boat with a few mates to go see the fireworks..

anyway, we cruise around all day no problems.. (well not many) and then comes time to anchor to see the show.. so I tell my offsider to take the wheel and keep her steady against the current, (there are many many other boats anchored in this area, so you can't just throw the anchor out and drift back, you have to go slightly forward of where you want to end up, throw the anchor and hope you were right.)

So anyway, he takes the wheel and I go up front to do the anchor duties, the motor is not much above idle to keep in place against the tide.. (we were moving forward at a couple of knots.)
So I throw the anchor, start feeding it line, and yell to the offsider to kill the motor, then I yell louder,, then louder again, then much louder and with profanities.... then the anchor line snaps because we ran out of line and were still going forwards.

He apparently couldn't hear me screaming at the front of the boat.. but since there was only about 3.5 meters between us, I find that hard to understand. (believe)

So the most embarassing thing was that I took us back to sure, found a big bolder, put it on the nose of the boat, went back out, tied the anchor rope round the bolder and pushed it off the side.

in front of about 50 other boaters, I felt soooo embarrased.. but at least we got to see the show.

pulling the bolder back up later was no easy task, so I got it close to the boat and cut the line.

what a day.....
