Re: Concorde 31 help

Twin engine I/O, a lot of work, and likely a nice pile of cash. Worth it to you? Worth selling? Well, you'll have to tell us......

Yeah, I have NO IDEA, MUCH MORE involved then I can even remotely attempt to advise you. Sorry....

Besides how are material costs in Bahama versus the states? I suspect that even if I could estimate costs, it would likely be so inaccurate as to be irrelevant.

What does a 5gal of 435 polyester resin, w/ MEK hardener, delivered run there? W/ hazmat shipping, it is likely wildly different then it is here....

Re: Concorde 31 help

i did a check at one of the boating stores here and found out that they dont sell five gallon resin rather one gallon and the resin per gallon is $89.00 i am thinking that it will be better to purchase from the usa and make a good saving other than U.S. Composites, Inc is there any other place i can check out

Muchless bring the entire hull back to life...

Re: Concorde 31 help

Hey there drexterm, welcome to the best dry dock on the net...

A good friend of mine who is seriously into boats, once said to me, "The cost of a boat is relative to the Love and Enjoyment you get out of it"...then in the same breath he said, "In the end, a boat is a hobby hole you throw money into"...

Like the guys said, a lot depends on what things cost there versus here and how much time you are willing to put into it...

Ouch! 89 bucks a gallon for resin...I have an unbelievable connection and I get FIVE gallons of resin for that amount and get change...

Taking into account that engines with outdrives can cost a ton of cash, not to mention the age of the boat and the conditions it looks like from the pics, that it has been stored, would make me very suspicious of the actual integrity of the hull...without doing some in depth exploratory core sampling of the underlying wooden sub structure, you won't know for sure if the hull is "solid"...

Maybe, if you could find a good donor boat that has good engines/outdrives/wiring/controls/fuel tank(s)/etc..., and can find good prices on the materials you'll need to do a full restore, if needed...would it be possible to keep within your budget...otherwise, you could easily top 20-30 K on a project this big...

Just remember, your sweat equity is the biggest, unrecoverable expense...you will easily spend several hundred hours of your free time being consumed by this endeavor...

If you decide to tackle this project, we will for sure jump aboard and help you out with whatever info you will need to make it a successful restoration...

Best of luck and most of all have fun!

Re: Concorde 31 help

I have to agree with Bond-O on this one. Tanks and Diesel engines for this boat will run more than 15 grand and you haven't even started on the rest of the repairs. I can see you easily sinking (pun intended) $40 grand into her before you're on the water and 2yrs of work unless you've got a lot of helpers. Have you investigated Used Diesel Engines in your area and gas tanks?

No matter what your situation is, someone, somewhere, probably has it worse than you do...

Personally if I were taking on a massive project, as I am now, I would find someone that still had its engines and drives in place. Are diesels all but mandatory in the Bahamas?

thanks F14 crazy
thats my plan to find the engines and tanks if i go ahead with the restoration ................right now i am working on a smaller restoration now

Re: Concorde 31 help

wood i saw this post before ..........thanks for the link..........onething though these boats have no specs for even if i wanted to do a full restor its still more challenging

I posted that so you could see that here in the states that boat With engines and tanks only sells for $12,500. And it still needs a lot of work. You're investment in this one will be a LOT more than 12.5 and getting your money back will never happen. Just my opinion.
