Some patience would be in order me thinks.
You said your compression was 80 - - For meaningful feedback you need to provide values by cylinder for all six.
Ok how do I check to see what heads I haveIf that engine has the stock 456/457 heads, you should get about 110 lbs on each cyl when cranking.
geez......just check compression on all cyls and post back, it can be narrowed down after the results
The part number of the heads is cast into the side of each casting. Look for the numbers: 323456/457. I'd suggest retesting with another compression gauge. Not all of them read the same...
It absolutely makes a difference in what heads you have on that powerhead. In the mid 80's OMC went to the low compression "bathtub" heads on many models. They run significantly less compression, perhaps even down to 85-90 on each cyl. If you have those low compression heads on your engine, it's important to know that-it will tell you if you have a possible internal powerhead issue, or if it's just normal. If you are running stock factory carbs and jets, it won't run well on those low compression heads. Poor holeshot and weak midrange are symptoms.
