I want to do a compression check on my '72 1150 and im looking for advice on what would be the best tester to buy. I know that the #6 cylinder has very little room so im wondering if someone makes a tester that eliminates the hassle of getting to #6. Thanks for suggestions!

Re: compression tester

Yeh the lower plug is a PITA to get at. I carefully measured and cut a 1 1/4" hole in the lower cowl directly behind the bottom plug. Lets me get a socket on the plug and a compression tester in the hole easily.

Went to Lowes and bought a black rubber hole plug that fits perfectly in the hole and is hardly noticeable.

I think all those motors should have come from the factory like that :D.

Thanks for your input Moody Blue. So what type or Brand of tester did you use and were you happy with its performance?

Re: compression tester

I use a wrench to remove the plug for #6 (remove #5 plug first).

Then I use a cheap pressure gauge that came with an 8" flexible extension. Works great! No need to lower the cowling.

Looks similar to this:
