Preparing to test compression on my 175 HP V6.
1. Should I use the muffs while spinning engine for test?
2. What is the best way to disable engine from trying to crank while testing?

put in neutral, take all the plugs out and test

And yes, put it on muffs so you don't burn up the impeller.

If you have a starter solenoid, you need to run a jumper wire from a 12V source to the positive side of the coil for the solenoid. That will crank the engine without needing the ignition.

Make sure you have the throttle wide open also
