Could some please explain how to properly test cylinder compression. I've got a tester...but I want to avoid inaccurate readings because of misuse.

Thanks

Re: Compression Test Procedure

the best way to test is on a warm engine because everything is expanded

what i do is this
#1 pull the stop switch out (engine will turn over but no spark)

#2 pull out the plug u want and replace it with the tester, while all the other plugs are in

#3 MAKE SURE U PUT THE CARBS IN THE OPEN POSITION, if u do not might take more than a 10 second count and u could burn out ur starter motor,

#4 crank over for 10 second count or until the needle in the guage does not rise, write down the reading

#5 due #3 to the rest of cylinders

#6 the cylinders should be within 10%

there u go
if u have a remote starter would be help full also

Hello, I just read your post and was wondering where the "stop switch" is?
Thanks
