The 1992-1994 40hp are listed as 140-160 psi.

THe 1995 has no listed factory spec, other than the cylinders being within 15 psi of each other

I would look for numbers above 120psi.

Did the check with some bad news.top cyl was around 130 and lower cyl around 60.Motor runs fine at present but what could cause low compression?Motor has had fx gaskets and stater kit replaced in past.

It may be running, but it can't be running fine with compression that low on a cylinder.

Head gasket or broken rings.

What do the plugs look like after running awhile? Do they look the same?

When you say it "runs fine", are you talking about on muffs? in a water tank? or in the lake pushing a load?

fx gaskets???

Plugs look the same dark and oily.Fx gasket on old repair slip could be Ex gasket or exhaust.Have run on the lake with only minor problems flooding somewhat easily.Suggestions?Could exhaust prblems cause low comp.
