I had my window frames powder coated semi-gloss black and now looking at color for my rub rail and hardtop trim. The originals were of course anodized aluminum and the rub rail had a black insert. I was thinking about going with the semi-gloss black on the rub rail with a white insert but then would it look out of place to also have the trim along the front and side edges of the two upper hard top pieces (intermediate just above the lower windshield and the top above the upper windshield) also in black (they are solid trim and no insert)??

Ayuh,..... No color opinion from me, But,.....

You do realize, that the anodization will need to be scrubbed off with a ssteel wire brush, before repaintin' it, if you expect the paint to stick,.....

Paintin' aluminum is a real pain to get right,....

I'd probably leave the cabin trim alone, 'n the pull the black plastic strip(if it really needs replacin' ) outa the rubrail, 'n replace it with a big fat hunk of nylon rope/ line,.....

Since I disassembled the entire boat hardtops and all, I have the aluminum rub rail and the upper trim pieces off the boat. I was planning to look into media bead blasting the aluminum before either paint or powder coat.. If I paint them, I will go the alodine route before paint but powder coat is so much easier... The powder coater I used for the window frames does media blasting and on old aluminum they use a powder primer before finish..

I don't think the rope idea will work on the rub rail profile that I have...

If you are really interested in seeing how it would look, get a computer program that you can take a picture and change things to see the results of how you want it. A lot cheaper then doing it and then not liking it... Just an idea.

Bear in mind that colors fade from the constant UV exposure.
Black turns to washed out Grey. Blue turns to washed out Blue

I was very surprised when I "cleaned" the "blue" rub rail insert on my boat with Acetone. Darkened it back to it's original "Navy Blue"

The Black color in powder coat is the most UV stable at least in Prismatic Colors. Silver in powder coat requires a clearcoat to be reasonably stable under UV then it gets spendy. Might be better to blast and base/clear I guess. I will check with my GF as she is better with image modification than I am and maybe she can color it in to get an idea of what it will look like...
