Re: cold? where?

We could say the same about your snakes, and termites, and year round skeetos, etc. But the truth is I'm getting darn sick of this cold stuff too. I used to enjoy all the winter sports, now just dread the extra work and being locked inside. This winter has been extra cold, but the last 4 were mild.

Thinking of moving south 150 miles so I can avoid the real cold stuff, and would pick up 8 to 10 weeks of summer weather also.

Hear that SCOOP? Find me a couple acres near you. Preferably zoned for agriculture for my animals.

Tell me about it! Its 20 degrees here, but going to reach 40 in the next couple days though. We had one bad snow storm with thunder believe it or not! My boat is probably sad and wants to come out :( Spring can't come fast enough!!!!!! It seems like almost forever that its not going to come. It will sooner or later.

JAZZ ;)

Only 15 months until the weather breaks & I can get wet again.
Early winter this season. I think it hit in '84

When I was single, this kind of cold sent me to the Keys or the Bahama's.

Those days are LONG GONE.
Now,...
Warm memories and cold feet

I think I'm gonna cry.

WHERE'S MY BEER?!

Re: cold? where?

This is the mildest winter I can recall here. In Feb. (pretty sure it was Feb.) '96 we had a storm with 48" of snow overnight and heavy rain the following day. Rooves collapsed, airport hangars went down, one marina was almost completely destroyed... this year in Feb. I'm in the hot sun in a t-shirt polishing the trim on the boat... it is eerily mild on Vancouver Island this year but I'll take it.

Gonfishn, I look at it this way. When hell freezes over, we will be prepared for it more than those down south.

I look back at last season and can honestly say that I really enjoyed complaining about it being too hot! I have the need to sweat! Winter flab has gotta go......SS

Re: cold? where?

Man I'm so glad S.S.Mayfloat is still amongst us. Guys I posted him a while back to get some info on Clear Fork since I think he is from that area but my post went nil. I thought he was doing some serious hibernation or he was afraid I'd come up and take some of his Muskies away from him. Need to check in more than once a month my friend to let us know your still hanging.......

Re: cold? where?

Roscoe, While we would welcome you with open arms and have a bunch of houses for sale, you sure won't get more than a week more summer. We are 1/2 hour from Madison and we are about a week behind on the growing season. This morning it was -10F without the wind chill. All the air from Canda has moved down here. Madison got 6 inches of snow yesterday while we got another dusting. Drought is really bad here. Never seen it this bad. We live near two rivers and are surrounded by swamp. It is all dry now.

Cold weather is not that bad. I would rather have that then all the fire ants, poisonous snakes, poisonous spiders, year round mosquitos. My parents in Arkansas have to have their house sprayed for spiders and they regularly get copperheads in their yard. We do however have to deal with West Nile virus and Lymes disease. Heck last night, there was a huge doe in my front yard. I was 10 feet from it. Wish I had a bow and it was in season. Good eating and reduce the number of deer ticks.

Re: cold? where?

Hey Gonfishin, I know Clearfork pretty well, at least well enough not to get hung up on underwater structures.

Yes sir, the Muskie fishing there is pretty good. Got to see one snatch a small duck that was swimming by my boat. That was awesome!

Sorry I didn't see your post to respond. Times I get so wound up in job and family it is hard to take time out for myself. Good talking....SS

A couple of nights ago I couldn't see my dog outside when it was snowing. Looked in the doghouse and didn't see her chain. I could see her chain hanging from her cable from he dog run, but no dog. Then I tapped on the window and the snow moved, she was completely covered by snow. Crazy Dog, she will pant when the temp hits 40. Now if I could have a coat like hers. Of course I think I would look funny covered in fur. :D

Re: cold? where?

Well Scoop, I am about 160 miles due north of Madison, as the crow flies. Probably 130 north of you, and we have had below zero the last 10 days straight. We finally got snow and all the trails are groomed and open, but who wants to go out there and drive around. Its been dry around here for a few years too.

I lived west of Milw for 35 years and have found that 160 miles north means about 10 weeks of summer. Its still cold here on Memorial Day, and the snow and freezing temps start in late September. Summer nights are alot cooler here too. The dew usually doesn't burn off the grass till noon or 1pm, and since I usually work 2nd shift, that means I have to spend my day off mowing the lawn instead of fishing. I could do without the traffic and Nile virus , as I have pet parrots, but i am seriously thinking of the area east of Portage.

Come April and May, you'll be pulling in the walleyes, and I'll be shoveling snow. To make matters worse, I work in a food processing plant, 42 degrees all day.
