AIC and IAC are mean the same thing. Back in the 80s when engine management systems came out. Depending witch company you bought from they all had different names for the same parts. It was a night mare at times trying to talk to other teck from other companys. In the 90s they staderized the names.

Anyways it can be Air Ide Control or Idel Air Control

Re: Cold starting issue with truck

I tested the IAC system according to my haynes manual. The manual said I should have approx. 10.5 volts at the motor, I had 11.5. I checked the resistance at the motor 8.8 ohms. Within the accepable range of 7-13.

When I check the voltage the engine had not been run all day. Would the slightly higher voltage be the signal for the solinoid to open the valve more and cause the higher idle for the cold start? When I did start after cleaning out the valve assembly, it went to high idle immediatly. However I would have expected it to work as it is above 30 here today.

I'll have to see if cleaning the IAC assembly did any good when we get back down to below zero this week.

Thanks again!

You're on the right track. Remove the valve and spray some throttle body cleaner (best) or WD40 into the valve and let it soak for an hour. Use a toothbrush and the same cleaner to de-carbon the throttle valves while you are at it.

Re: Cold starting issue with truck

by the way that straight 6 will out pull a 5.0 all day long...........when i was working at ford i kept asking how come they quit producing those, but never got a straight answer.....of course i doubt ford would even give up the secret to any dealer.

all i can figure is ford wasnt making enough money on parts so they got rid of one of thier best engs.........although im a chevy man i worked at ford and own 2-----but theres no denying that 300 is hard to beat.

ford got rid of the 4.9 5.0 5.8 7.3 and 7.4 for 2 reasons.
1 they couldn't clean up the emmissions enough to meet standards and
2 face it the 4.9 would pull about anything but look at the fuel millage out of them

Re: Cold starting issue with truck

I just wanted to follow up on my cold start issue.

Its Fixed!!:D

Removed and cleaned the AIC a couple weeks back. We haven't had any super cold weather lately but its been down to -5 or -10 F a couple times.
Every time I was able to reach in without even getting into the truck and it fires right up and idles up just like it should.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and comments!! I learn something new here at Iboats every day.
