Code reader help 4.3 M.P.I.

Greeting All.
I have a Mercruser 4.3L MPI. 220 H.P. SER # 0M355000. ECM555 during the last time the boat was out it began throwing the dreaded double beep every min. Loss of power/limp mode. I have taken the boat to the shop to see if they can read the codes from the computer. Have had the boat at the shop for a week and they have not touched it. Had seen a hack on using a paperclip to send the engine in to service mode and attaching an LED or beep alarm to where the computer will give the code for the malfunction as seen on Youtube. Not sure if this will work for my engine but would be willing to give it a try. If anyone has any clues or ideas on code readers or other hacks that will work with out breaking the bank. Please let me know.

Thanks for the serial number
With a 555ECM the paper clip will not work. The paper clip only works on MEFI ECMs

You will need a Rinda Techmate Pro or Diacom software with adapter 94006

No, sorry, that trick won’t work on your 555 ECM…

There’s also a rental program on eBay to rent a Diacom so you could check things out for yourself if you don’t want to buy a marine scanner tool like mentioned above.
