Yes, we now have a revised list of basics. . .

1) impeller
2) thermostat
3) sea shell

i think you might have missed my point

on your numbered checklist

# 18 - check for bravoitits

should have checked both inlet & outlet

not just one side

which FWIW should have been ALOT higher on the checklist - IMHO

in keeping with the simplest solution first

just saying

were all here trying to help each other

someone else might avoid

all that wasted time and effort

by eliminating simple things first

You are right, I should have checked for the sea shell first :D

This would have been a whole lot easier if I had a trailer (a big 12,000 lb. tri-axle trailer that is) and could have pulled the boat for a day or two in order to check things on land. As it was, I tried to do a lot of things with the boat in the water.

The good news is that I have an IR temp gun, a new timing light, and wicked cool computer software :)

"De-scaling" the HE's and the iron-flushes were probably a pretty good idea in any case!

Based on what the H.E. internals looked like, and the fact that Scott noted they are 4-pass exchangers, I'd say you're right, I would have needed to be cleaning those out anyway. It probably would have manifested itself with a gradual engine temperature rise on both engines, instead of just 1 engine, maybe not this past season, but probably next season.

The iron flushes were interesting . . . I'll have to see how that effects the temperature & cooling response next season.
