boaters please advise.

I have a mrecusier 350 short block alpha one gen 1 outdrive.
I droped the lower unit to have a new skeg welded on while i had it off I changed the impeller. i was told to put the shifter in forward before I put the lower unit back on. when I put the lower unit back on I made sure the shift shaft was in saddle pushed the lower unit in place and tighten the bolts. So now it appears I did everything correct I guess this is the first time I have ever done this. Now when I spin the prop clockwise by hand (motor off) shifter in foward gear there is a clicking sound. IS THIS NORMAL? It also gives a clicking sound in I put the shifter in reverse and spin the prop by hand. If I put the shifter in netraul the porp spins both clockwise and counter clockwise no clicking sound,

If it clicks one way and locks the other way you are OK.:)
