Clicking sound from shift shaft in lower alpha unit

I have a big problem I replaced the upper unit on my boat and put the orginal lower with the new upper. My problem is I get a very loud clicking or clanging sound coming from the shift shaft in the lower unit it's like it's not engaging all the way. I know the gears in the lower are ok because when it is separated from the upper I can select the gears spin the prop and see the shaft turning. Any ideas guys. Thanks a ton!!!

Howdy

You need to try adjusting your lower shift cable. If this doesn't fix the issue then your going to need to replace the lower cable
