Clearing

I have a 1992 Johnson 9.9 long shaft that I use on my 27 foot sailboat in salt water. I make an effort to flush the motor with each use but find the "pee-hole" plugs very easily with salt. The engine isn't running especially hot and I have had it checked so it isn't a water pump problem I think it's just the design of the coolant indicator line. Has anyone found an easy way to keep that line clear. I still like to see a nice stream coming out...makes me feel better.

Not only can the hose get plugged up, but also the plastic nipple the hose attaches to (if this motor has a plastic nipple). So pull the hose off the nipple and poke a paper clip into the nipple to clear it out if you haven't already done that.

Yup, done that, even tried putting a guitar string down the hose, but there is a silly right angle that stops that from working.

One of the things that LeeRoy Wisner suggested was to drill a cleanout hole through the square end of the tell tale fitting and then put a screw in it. I liked the idea and used it.
