Re: Classic boat pic gallery (20yr and older)

Slightly OT I reckon but those of you with older boats might want to check into if and at what age your state considers a boat 'antique'.

In FL if a boat is over 30 yrs old, powered by it's origional type motor, and used for non-commercial purposes. It may be registered as a antique.

The savings are substantial. Registration for my dearly departed '71 V153 was $6.25 per year. No BS.

Worth looking into?

Here's a pic on the day the kit was delivered (May 3rd 1983). (it's black and white because the magazine i was writing for hadn't got round to using colour at that time). I'll see if I can find some more later on. On the left, live-aboard yard character Ken. Now long gone! On the right, my dad who played a big in the building and finishing of the boat. Also sadly long gone! In the middle, Mel who I haven't seen for years but still going strong I believe! Pic underway was taken from a Coastguard helicopter on exercise after they had dropped a crewman on board via the winch cable. You can see him sitting next me on the flybridge enjoying a cup of tea!

I saw that a while back when someone mentioned it - that's so cool. Unfortunately, nothing like that here in TN.

Anyone happen to know if anything like this exists for PA? I did a quick search that turned up nothing, but I didn't spend too much time on it.

1981 Checkmate Enticer. Went down to the dealer in 1981 to pick it out with my dad. I got the keys 3 months ago and started on it. Had to replace pretty much everything forward of the transom wood. OK the transom wood too. Got it in the water yesterday.

I was never much for bowriders in that vintage of boat with a few exceptions. Yours looks really good. Great job.

Reminds me of a Glastron/Carlson CVZ though I think they had less deadrise. Bet your hull is very similar to my '81 Baja.

Nice work!

Here is our 88 Starcraft Medalist 1600 powered by a Evenrude1988 88SPL. We bought the setup July 2010 and used the boat 6-7 time for the season. Had to replaced the floor and reupholstered the seats May 2011. She was back in the water June of 2011. We have a blast in our smaller/older boat, we move to a house right on the lake this year. So the Summer of 2012 will be even better with the boat in the water and ready to take a spin whenever!

Nice. I've always loved the 70's and early 80's Checkmates. A lot of peole like the looks of the closed bow Checkmates better than the bow riders, but a bow rider is much more practical when you have a family. Checkmate did a great job of keeping their "look" in the bow riders.

Not a lot of people realize that Baja's first boats were built in molds obtained from Checkmate.
