Need some help, I am doing everything by the book and can't figure this out. I have the merc service manual and did the FAQ step by step and still no luck. I have an 1982, 50 HP, 4 cylinder, electric start.
Here is what I did.
-Pulled all the plugs minus the top, disconnected the cable and started on my idle stops.
-Idle needles out 1.5 turns
-Idle stop screw set so out of gear in idle timing is 4-6 degrees ATDC (manual says 3-9 degrees)
-Advanced timing to TDC and set 1st throttle pickup to just touching carb (manual says 2 ATDC - 2 BTDC)
-Maxed advance and set to stop to 34 degrees BTDC (book says 33-34)
-Moved 2nd throttle pickup to carb tang.
Now I can't get an idle at all. My top end sounds a lot better but idle is non-existent. Tweaked the idle needles with no change. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
