Anyone have any ideas on how I can get the top 2' above the key hole clamped down tight? My tansom is a single layer 3/4" plywood 46"x 81" and then doubled up around the key hole 33"x32". Im pretty sure I can get the area around the key hole tight with a clamping system like FriscoJarret used but my concern is the top 2' above the key hole. Im thinking about using the tie down loop holes some how. The transom goes all the way up to the rub rail.

those rope rings you have port and starboard are thru bolted, you could use those 4 existing holes in the outer skin to sandwich the upper portion of your transom with 2x4's like you said....then use bottle jacks on end to compress the center portion..

you could make a grid out of wood for the whole upper portion to distribute the pressure, then clamp it with the ring holes and stratecally place jacks or even wood wedges to a beam on the inside and also the outside, then tighten it all up.

Heres what Im thinking, if I use those tie down holes I can put a 2x4 on edge with 2 or 3 2x4's on the flat spaced out evenly accross that 2' span at the top. My concern is will threaded stock on each end of that 2x4 on edge put enough pressure on the 2x4's on the flat? being that your tightening them down on each end and nothing in the middle???

WOG Ive looked at your clamping system, my gap at the top is almost a 12" gap to account for the cap of the boat.

maybe if you can get some warped wood (home depot has it standard lol) and lay it with the bow facing the transom, when the ends compress, the center will get alot of force....just a thought

I don't think I'd installing 'pre-tensioned' lumber at the transom.... It may even distort the area around the keyhole, and create parallelism & alignment problems with the I/O. Not much room for error............

You can also under cut the keyhole to give you a hole thru which you can bolt some additional braces. Then once the transom is installed, you can finish cutting the keyhole.

If you're changing any of the hardware locations on the transom, you're going to have repairs to the exterior fiberglass anyway. So drill a few extra bolt holes for clamps. Or drill the transom thru holes, use them for clamps, and repair them after....

Im not changing any mounting holes, I plan on using the key hole for most of the clamping hardware, its just the top 2 foot that has me worried. I need a way to put pressure along the top about 2' by 81". Keep thinking and I appreciate the fore thought!

Ayuh,.... Usin' threaded rod through the holes with the U-bolts in 'em,....

Put a 2x4, on edge, both inside, 'n outside, through-bolted to each other, sandwichin' yer castin' into place,....

Maybe this will help you visualize what I mean. If you build some 14" "mini 2x4 structures that look like a stud wall in a house and screwed them to the transom then you could use the clamps to clamp it over the top of the top cap something like this...
