Clamp Ring Seals

Been looking on the net for days trying to find the procedure for installing a volvo penta 5.7 engine. I found posts about aligning the three tabs on the bell housing to center the large o-ring seal into the transom plate. I think I got that but can't find a damn thing about what to torque the clamp ring to. I have a volvo penta shop manual coming for the engine and drive but it's going to take forever to get here cuz of holiday shipping. Driving me nuts waiting, anyone know the procedure and torque for those two large o-ring seals ?

Thanks

What model/number stern drive and year is yours? Volvo Penta “AQ” series.

My initial thought is you might need the transom service manual to help locate that torque number such as these for example,

This mentioned, someone here may have the torque spec in one of their aftermarket style service manuals for you once we confirm your engine and drive combination/application.

It's in the manual I sent you

It's also in the stickies in the write up from the great Don S

With the required new O-rings, lightly coated with grease. Start with the clamp ring loose

As you clamp the PDS, you also align the housing. Using feeler gauges, you set the gap at the 9, 12, and 3 position to within 1 mm of each other by adjusting the engine mounts

Tighten the clamp ring in a star pattern. When the ring bottoms out, you will know it. Then snug the bolts up to about 24-30 ft-lbs. Then bend the ears in the retaining washers

Then lock down the motor mounts

The engine is a 1991 570A (4100116795), drive is a DP-A 290. I have it together and the clamp ring torque is supposed to be 20-25 ft. lbs. What I didn't know is the bolts actually keep tightening until they bottom out and the torque is just for the bolt. At least I am assuming they are supposed to bottom out, I'm using new rings and the bolts that came out (unless someone changed them to the wrong bolt, I guess anything is possible). If anyone knows this to be correct or not, please chime in, I won't be putting the drive on for a week or so.

Yes, you bottom the ring out on the PDS

Bolts should be 4-5" long and have half of it threaded
