This post is kinda part of my alternator problem... I think my water pump is failing, and as a result, sprayed water on my alternator that rusted out.

Anyhow... I've been looking on the net for various water pump prices, and there seems to be a large variety of pumps available for the 5.0.

Isn't the water pump the same on the small block Chevy ? Looks to me like they are all the same with a different name and price.

I'm a Ford man myself, and I could probably tell you what part would interchange with them, but not Chevy's.

Mercury Part Express says the part # is: 8503991
My boat currently has a reman on it: 850399R3
My engine has the composite timing cover.

There are Sierra brands, Quicksilver, OEM GM...
Enough to make my head swim!
I can't seem to find a cross reference chart either.

Any recommendations? The original pump failed within the warranty period. The reman that's on it now failed in about 2 years, so I'm not sure which one to trust... reman or OEM ?

There are some on EBay, but I'm not sure if I want to trust buying from there (warranty, wrong part return, etc...)

I've seen the Sierra brand for less than $60 on various sites, but that seems awful cheap compared to the average price of around $80.
Is the Sierra pump your "Walmart" of pumps, or does the web site offering that cheap price have good buying power?

I'd still like to know if they are all the same!
