chrysler force 85 hp motor

i'm a new boat owner. i have a 16 ft. bayliner capri with an 1985 85 force motor. when i first took it in the water it ran fine for the first hour and than it would bogg ,i would shut it down and wait a while than start it back up and go back to the ramp and go home.with that in mind i took it upon myself and changed water impeller and also bought a new prop i brought the old one with me to west marine and they ordered me a new one. i also replaced the spark plugs.when working on the motor i noticed that on my top carb.i had a small hole in the plug i plugged that up with silicon.(thinking too much air was getting in)i than read from my seloc manual to adjust air and gas mixture to a factory setting. everything sounded good. i took the boat into the water as i was giving throttle the rpms were revving but the boat wasn't moving no faster than 5 knots.but the motor sound as if she was flying. i inch back and stored it for the winter and here i am.<br />in hine site i wished i would have never touch it or i did one thing at a time so i could've have identified each problem. well i know this is alot at once but if there is anyone that has any suggestions i appreciate it.thank you in advance

Welcome to iboats<br /><br />Ok, the gearcase is going into gear because you are moving, albeit only 5 knots. Engine is revving, speed not increasing. <br /><br />Almost sounds like they sold you a prop with a spun hub. Or that the prop doesn't fit far enough on the shaft to engage the splines.<br /><br />Could always try the old prop to see what happens.<br /><br />With motor off, can you turn the prop on the shaft with your hands?<br />May need someone to hold onto the flywheel to keep it from turning.<br /><br />Do you have all the parts assembled correctly, as in this picture? <br /><br />

<br /><br /><br />As for your original bogging problems, I would look at the fuel system.<br /><br />Would start with draining all the old gas out, and cleaning out the tank if there is dirt in there.<br />Then replace the entire fuel line, bulb, filter, etc.<br />Then buy a $6 fuel pump kit from Mercury and rebuild that.<br />Clean out the carb bowls, set mixture screws to spec, and give it a try.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PROMPTED REPLY. I AM GOING TO MY BOAT THIS WEEKEND AND I WILL TRY TURNING THE PROP. AND ALSO BRING THE OLD PROP WITH ME AND LOOK MORE CAREFULLY AT THE TWO.I REPLY WITH MY RESULTS EITHER THIS WEEKEND OR ON MONDAY THE LASTEST THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
