Hi I just bought this engine used from a guy. He hasen't used it in years cause the prop shaft broke and when he tried to replace it he couldn't get it to go into gear after he put it back together. I got it working again all he didn't do was engage the shift rod all the way so it was jammed. I haven't started it yet and there's something very scary looking about this engine. It has no air filter!! There is just the open end of the carb and there dosen't look like there was ever one either! Nor does it look like there is room for one but there are threads for one? Ok so besides that scary ordeal I need a new prop and one for cheap the motor will be used on a 14 flat bottom boat with about 600lbs total weight with full ride capacity. Anyone know what I should look for and where? Lastly does anyone know where I might find a full line of gaskets for these outboards? I want to rebuilt the whole thing topend and everything. The model # is 64H9E looks to be 80's. Thanks -Mark

I have a chrysler 6HP as well, it has one tiny little carb and no air cleaner either..

its not a problem, its not supposed to... there is not alot of dust out on the lake...

Only think you need to really keep out of the carb on an outboard is water, and an air filter doesn't help there anyway..

there is no room for an air filter even if you were disposed to add one.

go and use it.. they are very cool little motors..

rgds

Frank

Well being an engine enthusiast although I've never dealt with an outboard I've never heard of such a thing. The smallest microns of dust will cause wear and 2 strokes get worn enough as it is. Maybe I'll make my own ;-) Thanks guys

In general, flatskiff, outboards don't have air filters mounted on the carbs. They use the cowling as an air filter of sorts. This means we must keep the cover on the engine while it's operating (unless we are fidling with it), and keep the inside clean of leaves and other debris.
