Hi guys, 1976 Chrysler 45 hp has been sitting for 2 years, not sure how well it was winterized before that. I know first hand that it ran before, since I was out on it a few times.

I want to get this eng started before this winter, would should I do PRIOR to trying to start it?

Thanks very much, it is on 1976 Flare.

hello
first test spark. it may need attention if it still has points. then test compression. then check the gearcase oil for water. if thats good rebuild the carb and fuel pump. then do the t-stat and water pump and change the gear oil.
then you should be ready for some trouble free boating.

I'd just run a tank or 2 of 24-1 mix. Get a fuel pump kit from NAPA because you probably got that damn ethanol in your state and it doesn't do the diaphragm any good.

Is it a battery ignition, the type with 2 coils mounted on the l/h side of the engine?

like I said. after 2 years the carbs are gummy. and rubber goes bad. all you have to do to destroy that motor is run it hot or lean once. sometimes you dont get a second chance. clean or replace the points. rebuild the carb and fuel pump. replace the t-stat and water pump. or fight all of it for a while. that motor ,with exception of the shift link, is simple to do. buy a service manual and its an easy job. I had one of those old 45's that ran for years.
good luck and keep posting
