Greetings!
I got this Stinger recently, and just dropped it off at a shop to have the motors looked over by a Pro.
However... The transom is soft. I removed the inop trim tabs and noticed a few of the screws were baaaarely tight, and was concerned about water intrusion. I drilled a couple exploratory holes, and sure enough, the wood is soft easily half way up.
This boat has been sitting (inside) for several years, and I want to be sure there is no other major thing wrong with it (or the engines) before spending the time/money on a transom replacement. I made these reinforcements with material we had laying around at work. The 3/8” aluminum stringer “plates“ are tied into the transom with heavy duty angle iron.
The bolts going through the transom and the angle iron are the same studs that mount the motor bracket to the hull. They are 5/8” studs and the bolts anchoring the aluminum plates to the stringers are also 5/8”.
My Plan was to try and buy some time before a proper transom repair, but I have a couple questions:
1) Is this just a stupid and dangerous idea?
2) What is the best way to gain access to the entire transom when the stringers have those giant ”legs” that run up the inside of the transom? (The ones that I have the aluminum bolted to).
Thanks!!
