Re: Chieftain

Border crossing with the boats is real easy, "touch wood" have all your paper work ready, the big one is, a copy of the ad for the boat, other wise they don't believe the price and can charge tax on what they feel the boat should be worth up here. The hanger only see one rebuild at a time so no problem there. The Chief is going to go under a couple tarps till it's here turn.

I know the border crossing topic comes up every now and again. Thanks

When you go across, I hope you don't pull out your wallet and show off baby pics of the tinnies you've re-done. Just might affect the "what they feel the boat should be worth up here". :)

Re: Chieftain

Congrats Dozer, looks like a great pending project.

Tow it like ya stole it. 20hrs each way, gotta be a deal....

Don't let 'em snow ya, they all live vicariously out back of the Starcraft hanger while you're building them. :llama:

Then tag along for the splashs & the glory....

Given any thoughts to the L6? Re-power? Or TBD during/after tear-down?

Won't be showing off any finished tinnies, for the mentioned reasons.

Thanks JB, I'm hoping and the PO says the motor runs real good. I must be having a:stupid: moment, but what does TBD mean?

Re: Chieftain

Well guys it was a grueling 48 hours but I'm back home. Kenny Rogers sang a song "The Gambler" you gotta know when to hold them and you gotta know when to fold them, I had to fold them. The PO is a great guy 83 years old, suffering from a little bit of dementia. He bought the boat back in 94 when he lived in California from a fellow that had it moored in the ocean. The PO looked after it but his PO didn't, all the rails were corroded right off there mounts, and the interior was toast. Plus old Stan thought he was doing me a favour by putting muffs on it 4 days ago and starting her up, but he forgot to drain it and it was below 32f by 6 to 10 degrees the whole time..... So I saw a lot of real nice US real estate, and I did spend my extra StarCraft $ on a Minnkota Terrova I Pilot 80 for the SS so it was a good trip.

Sure, leave the junk boats in the US. Sorry the Chief was toast, but a Minnkota sounds nice. :)

I guess the worst thing is 48 hours gone and fuel $$. Not to mention that you could have been working on the SS. :mad-new:

Re: Chieftain

sorry to hear about that DII!

I almost walked-away from a deal this weekend to avoid telling a wonderful couple what their priceless boat was worth in cold-hard cash.

Needless to day, an offer was made, i have an SS in-tow...and now I'm stranded in Pennsylvania (200 miles from home) with busted brake lines!

Karma!??

That's the one GaB!!! (I'll post a thread soon! great bones in this rig but alot of work ahead of me)

Luckily the lines held-out long enough to get to a friends-house; I noticed a puddle under the silverado while tweaking the trailer lights (bad ground). Gotta love living in the salt-belt! 5-8" of predicted snowfall tonight is salt in the wound!:nightmare:

Re: Chieftain

Well now you know Dozer. It was a test and there is a better boat, better deal ahead. I think were all waiting to see what it will be. Ya know the idle hands mean no boats to work on. That Terrova will probably be on the boat tomorrow.
