Re: Chevy marine engine.

Nope,... No it Ain't.... No lineage to the Iron Duke, the Pontiac 2.5l....

The Marine motors We see are of a Chevy heritage... Different platform altogether...

It appears to Me, they're putting a new motor in a Car, 'n were curious about the piece of paper they found in the box...

I was wrong about it being related to the Iron Duke, but i think I was right on the Wikipedia link.

Quite honestly, after re-reading the post, I am not sure WHAT the hell they are doing. I guess I assumed that since this post was in the stern drive section of a major boat forum, he was looking at putting a 1995 Cavalier engine into a boat.

Re: Chevy marine engine.

Any engine design can be made to run CW or CCW and it doesn't matter if it is an overhead cam, overhead valve, or flat head. If it wasn't possible, how is it that auto engines run clockwise (fore/aft view) yet a 4-stroke model airplane engine runs CCW. Yes - some things must change (different cams for one, not just spinning them in opposite directions which accounts for the difference in part numbers). However the manufacturer accompllishes reverse rotation, it is very possible. Even my two stroke RC airplane engines will run in reverse and suddenly flip to normal rotation in the blink of an eye. How do I know its running backwards?? Simple, its blowing air at me and wants to back away from me. There were a few cars in Germany that didn't have a reverse gear. Messershmitt is one that comes to mind. Looked like a belly tank from a WWII fighter. You started the engine in reverse, backed out of the driveway or ???. Killed the engine. Flipped a lever, restarted the engine in forward and away you went. Two seater - fore/aft seating. Coffin on wheels.

Marine low speed diesels are started by compressed air and have a fixed pitch prop. To go astern the engine is started backwards.
And unless my memory fails, didn't mercury do a series of engines many moons ago that did the same?
