Checking for ROT? Transom & Stringers.

Soon to start my search for another boat. An 80's Pursuit, or Wellcraft, or
Skipjack 24 to 27 foot fisherman type,preferably outboard.
My QUESTION: I cannot core someone else's stringers or transom,
so what are the clues I look for to ensure I don't buy a rotten mess?
Are any of the brands mentioned more prone to rot problems?

tap with a small ballpeen hammer, a sharp crack meens solid,be happy, a dull thud or bounce means rot or delamination

I'm not convinced on that one, my mfg boat had a rotted transom and i did n't notice till one day removing my outboard, I saw some rot under the transom plate so i started tapping with a hammer and it all felt solid yet the whole thing was full of water, I'm not saying doesn't work, only that you really have to develop a knack for it I guess, I would look for bleed stains like below and around all external fasteners and plugs, my rotted MFG had these stains.
