We have been working for a while on finally upgrading the ugly old look of iboats.com. I can be rude because it is true. ;)

Here is a first view of the working model of what the new homepage will look like. Please note that we are still making changes and tweaks. Please vote on the poll and also give any and all feedback.

http://www.iboats.com/new_design/

It looks nice but something bugs me but I dont know the terminology..that floating pop up link thing as I drag the mouse pointer arround is distracting to me

I agree with TexomaAv8r about the floating pop-up. It's insidious. I would like it better if it popped up only when you hover over "Boat for Sale", "Boating Store", etc.

I do like the smaller web page which eliminates much scrolling.

I concur.... more than just being distracting, lots of people with older browsers will see a strange looking page because of inability of their browsers to load that code.

I am often on mobile internet that runs at the speed of dialup and the mouseover stuff can make for a slow loading site because of all that is in the background. Straight forward links would suffice for me.

The look is nice in my opinion but looks sort of generic in comparison to the old very defined look. Ugly or not, you knew exactly where you were because of the bold graphics on the heading.

edit... in looking it over again, its the big boat picture that flashes stuff on mouseover that I find annoying. :) Other than that it looks great.

LOL @ Link.

Better, but I concur with the other suggestions cocerning the popup thingee, and I agree with RPJS concerning colo(u)r. It is more pleasing to the eye now, but could be even a little more eye catching.

Not necessarily related, but I think you should update the logo at the same time. The sail thing is not consistent with the majority of who I think your customers are. Seems dated.

Pretty nice. Definately freshened it up a little. The floating popup over the picture is annoying.

I like it...maybe a bit more color though. You should stick with the color blue, it suits the site and related topics(you know...water is blue...and we all go boating...on water).
I also did like the wording, on the old page, on the right....where it said "Boating Community". That wording makes it friendlier. Then the wording "forums" is under "boating community".

I like the pop-up's over top of the picture. It makes it easier to navigate, or search for something. Although, the pop-up's do not always disappear, after I take my cursor off of it.

I think you should have it advertised how many people there are in the forums. Would it be possible to see it change, on a daily basis, when a new person joins iboats?

How about adding a "pic of the day", when you enter the forums? I'm sure we can all add some pics of our boats, or fishing time, out on the lake.

I think that is all....for now.
Cheers and thanks for having such a great site for us all to enjoy.
B.C.

Much nicer than the current design, although I'll admit to having the forums bookmarked directly :p .
I do agree with the other members who feel that the mouse-over pop-ups are annoying. Also, it is a bit on the wide side. I think the biggest thing that bothers me on the mouse-overs is that you get hit from both the top and bottom.
Any possibility that under "forums" on the main page, you can have a direct link to the FAQs?

I like it.. :) Not a whole bunch of "stuff" hitting you in the eye all of a sudden. Easy to see where to go for a particular thing. Don't like that pop-up thingy either.
