Leaking outdrive oil in bellows Going to change the seal in the bearings. Watching some videos and one recommends using the product in the link to make sure everything is lines up within the bearing assembly . Do I really need that or aligning the bearing assembly by eye and feel will be enough. Any tips on torqueing the nut or any other advice?

That tool would help but i just use a wide hose clamp to hold the bearing pack together.

As far as torquing the nut it depends on if you have a spacer between the bearings or not. Spacer means torque nut to 70 lb/ft, no spacer means you have to check the rolling torque. Best to get the factory service manual to help

I think I saw in one of the videos they mentioned if the bearing falls out it's the old type and if it's pressed in it's the new type that needs to be done by rolling torque. Is that correct? If not where and what spacer exactly should I be looking for so I know I'm doing it correctly. Somehow I have a feeling the bearing was never upgraded and I need the 70 lb/ft

If the bearing pack slides off the gear, you have the 70Ft/Lb type and will find the small ring and large ring between the bearings

I believe the manual is trying to say #24 is the small ring and #25 is the large ring. #25 indicates 2 but the second one may refer to the new type with "rolling torque" that only uses the large ring

Old style has small inner spacer (d), later do not...

I have the parts to rebuild this and will be doing it this week. Assuming I have the old style bearing if I torque the nut to 70 Ft/LB do I still need need to check the rolling torque? I'll double check but I think it's 5/6 IN/LB with the old style bearing. I believe that requires a dial torque wrench that I don't have and isn't cheap for a one time use EDIT: I'm just replacing the seal, yoke, and u joints. Not replacing the bearings

If you indeed have the older style bearIng/gear set WITH the spacer (as outlined in post #8 of this thread) there is no need to check the rolling torque unless you want to.
