Re: Changing Oil Sucks

My perkins diesel had a tube running down to the oil pan drain plug. It ran up to a hand pump mounted on the side of the engine box. No valve. I could just fit a gallon milk jug under the nozzel. 12 quarts came out no problem.

My Yanmars I used a five gallon bucket with a small tube down the dipstick. Good size 12 volt pump mounted on top with a two way switch. Took about 10 minutes each engine. They needed to at least NOT be cold but down here not much of a problem.

Re: Changing Oil Sucks

Bite the bullet and do your oil change the dirty way one more time, then replace your oil drain plug with a hose kit. The Quicksilver kit even includes a bilge plug with a dongle that attaches to the end of the oil hose so you can easily pull it out through your bilge drain hole.

I bought one this year, but sadly got the wrong one and had to reinstall my existing drain plug. Next year, the hose kit is going in.

Lots of quality-of-life improvements available on these engines if you know where to look :)

I second that advice. That's basically the same kit I got, probably made by the same mfgr. Looks to be quality-made.
