I never heard of 20-40. I use 10-40 in everything and never had a problem. Remember, the 10 does not signify wt.

I like reading it as "Oil" is always controversial and it livens up the forum.

Me too. I'm just trying to figure out why somebody would intentionally click on it then complain about having to read it!!!

Uhhh.

10= the cold "weight" - actual
40= the warm "weight" - after viscosity "improvers" "thicken"

Well I hate to do it... but i'm going to extend this oil thread (oh no!),,,

In some ways, I agree with the original poster. I'm tired of being out of Quicksilver 25W-40 when I have time to change my oil. The few marinas here in the midwest RAPE you for it. So then I have to order a case and wait for it to arrive a week later. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Would it really be so bad to change my 35 year old Merc 140 off of Merc 25W-40 and onto a full synthetic? Like maybe Mobil 1 or ...? I am just really after the convenience of running to the store for a few quarts rather than having to go online and then wait a week.

Same question on filters. EDIT: This is an oil thread, please don't change the subject. If you have a question about filters, then start a new thread of your own, on your subject.

Sorry, and thanks in advance.
