17 #865436A02 CABLE ASSEMBLY,SHIFT ACUATING
I think this is it and it seems to be what most of later models are using too. Pic shows one that would screw in from the back. thanks Ziggy and Don and rest of forum.

Got right MC cable from local dealer. Now for putting it together.
I have printed and reread and followed the manual but are there any tips on putting the bellhousing and bellows together? do you guys follow it to a "t" or is there an easier way? I have the drive shaft bellows on and tight but difficult to attach water hose next.

you will need to drive the bearing into the housing. drive only using the outer ring, not the inner ring. i put my bearing in a freezer bag, squeezed the air out, and put it in the freezer overnite. i took graphite powder and rubbed it in the bore of the housing to help it slide in. it still took some pounding to get it in. it has a distinct sound and feel when it hits the end shoulder. be sure to mark where the grease fitting and hole aligns if you get a lube type bearing. some bearings are now non-greasable.

Got it in and greased it. the grease came out all around the outer ring and none from the inner bearing and that worried me a little. but it was all lined up with the grease hole and I put in 40 pumps like the manual says. bearing feels nice and smooth. the old bearing was dry and rough but after I greased it it felt tighter than the one I have in now. would hate to have to remove it now that I have the bellhousing back on.
