Re: Central IL Boating

doesn't look too bad...I never realized there was that much water back behind the island that we sit on either....I thought we were pretty much on the END of the lake...we will definitely venture out a little farther this year. Hopefully we get down a few more times this year. I do enjoy my good ole lake D, but sometimes its nice to have a change...

Re: Central IL Boating

Hi Illinois Boaters... I'm looking for lakes in north and central Illinois with no HP limits. Just got a 125 HP bass boat and having a hard time finding lakes that are deep and don't have motor restrictions. So far Lake George looks like about the only place other than rivers. Don't wanna have to go all the way downstate to find a good lake.

I'm sure not many people would travel to put in on Lake Decatur but it really isn't a bad body of water. They just dredged a whole nother basin that will be available this season that wasn't last.

I have no idea where the trestle bridge is lol. If it isn't close to wilborn I won't ever see it...and most times when we come down we bring a crew of 8 boats on average so wherever we go needs to be a decent sized place where you can pull right up on the bank. At home we can tie up 20 boats together and not have problems, but I think on Shelbyville 4 is the limit?
Brian, I know your post is a decade old at this point, so I am looking for an update on Lake Decatur. Looking at lake homes and there is one on Lake Decatur we really like. However, I am concerned about the lake since we love to boat and I want to take up Bass fishing again. My wife starts getting concerned when the depth finder drops to 10' because she thinks we are going to hit something. We run a 21' Chapparrel and have thought about upgrading to a 24'. Do you think we will have boating problems on this lake now or has it continued to improve? Will I be fairly happy with fishing?
