Re: CDI test procedure question for 1988 johnson 200
I have the old water control valve and hoses and diaphram. Thought about switching before I bought these parts, but it added to the cost to buy the new covers. Trying to keep expense low until I figure out for sure whether this motor wants to run correctly or become an anchor. I just had the bright idea to check the parts diagram to figure out the order of the cup and seal and it shows the way you describe it should be. Seems like the cup may also help keep the seal seated correctly too. I don't have a temp gage just horn so I guess I will need to get the old cups out without tearing anything else up. It was aggravating enough just getting the old seal out it was stuck in there pretty good. I actually left the seal on starboard side since it didn't look bad. Guess I should go ahead and change it out now that I know cup is in backwards.
One thing I did notice on the starboard side was that the little hole in the diaphram didn't match up with anything on the cover. In other words it was covered up unlike the port side cover which I could tell would allow some water to pass through. Since you have the newer style I guess you may not know if that is normal, but if anyone else cares to confirm this that would be great.
