I Purchased this motor last year and saw it run only a minute, this week I tried to start it, I had to clean Oil off the plugs to get it to fire, Is this bcause of the Fuel Mix or a bad Ring?
I then put it in a tank of water past the water intakes and started it up to test the Impeller, I only had warm exhause fumes coming out no water spray. I have read on these forums some people say only a mist comes out and others say a water stream should be blowing out. Which is it? I only ran it for a minute as ive seen that running a motor with a non-working Impellar will damage it badly.

Am I missing something?

Thank you in advance

Un-burned fuel/oil is what you see on the plugs. Your motor doesn't have a "pee stream". You'll see a fine mist of water coming out of the exhaust housing (when running). If not, you might want to take the lower unit off and change the impeller.

Well, a pretty good spray comes out of mine. You need to ensure the water is above the water pump (which is just above the point where the lower unit is unbolted. Should be 4 bolts there. Make sure water is at least 3 inches above this point) not the intake holes.

If it is submerged enough and you are not getting much out the exhaust hole, then you will need to drop the lower unit and inspect the impeller. You should change it anyways if you have gone to all the trouble of dropping the LU.

Your title says that you have an "exhaust problem". Is that to say that you are not exhausting water or is there some other problem?

Correct, no water is coming out of the hole..only what feels like a lawnmower "puffing" from the exhaust....

Well if you are comfortable that you have it submerged enough then you are going to need to look at the impeller. With my motor you could take a shower with the water that it shoots out the exhaust hole.

By the way if you have never done this before these videos will be priceless. Your motor is a little newer and a different color but basically identical in design. Good luck.

Don't forget to get yourself another powerhead exhaust gasket (#313065 or Sierra 18-2901) and a new crankcase seal (#303355 or Sierra 18-2892). There both only a couple of bucks and your motor will thank you for another 50 years for your thoughtfulness.

ok..I tried it again with at leats 4 inches of water over the top of the intakes and it shot water out just fine.....glad I double checked....but there is a problem..the seal around the output shaft is leaking the gear lube I just put in it, I purchased a general manual for the repair...but I cant find the part number of the seal
