Hello, so I have a 14ft boat with a 50 HP mercury on it. It seems to run fine with two people but on the rare time it will plane out it starts to cavitate. I am hoping to check tomorrow for a spun hub but if it is not, anyone have an idea what might be going on?

Trim is down all the way and it still happens. Also will search that up and see what I can find.

Trim all the way down on an engine mounted too high won't fix it.

Re: Cavitating???

The edge of my prop is worn to the metal and is damaged. The black paint has "bubbles" in it. That is the best way to describe it. I am not very good with props as you can tell.

I am coming off plane and only going slowly, but I am having a hard time getting on a good plane. Will get 3/4 way there and stay there.

Can't swallow a 50 cavitating anything without blowing itself up. Has to be ventilation sucking air from somewhere.

Where would it be getting air from? I had a fin put on to push water down and keep air out

If you can get up on plane, I don't think it's a spun prop. After getting on plane you try to accelerate and the prop busts loose, the prop is too high in the water and sucking air/ventilating. The only solution is lower the prop or get your fat buddies to sit in the aft portion of the boat.

Okay well I had me 115 pounds, father 140 pounds and a friend who was 220 all in the boat and we will went slow. I would not pick up any speed. Also I have got the boat to plane ONCE! This was with just me and my father, it lasted for about 15 second till I gave it more gas and tried to go a bit faster.
